Foodie Pen Pals Reveal Day!

Get Your Greens In.

Did you this morning? I did. I know that I just won’t shut up about avocado, but seriously, it’s the bees knees.

I had missed it the last few mornings, due to unripe avocados, and I could tell I was not feeling as full throughout the morning.

Guess what?

I worked out this morning. I was kind of happy last night because after lounging for a while, I got up and packed lunch, and picked out work/workout clothes. I felt so productive. At 520 my alarm and my BF’s went off. It helped that I knew he was getting up to workout. I laid in bed a few more minutes, then hopped up and got going! I had a really good NROLFW workout, and then came back to the apt to hope in the shower. I feel so productive considering I’ve already been up almost 3 hours.

No Joke.

Lunges, that is. Yesterday I did my NROLFW workout, which in included some lunges. My buns are feeling it. I think in my mind, lunges were underrated. Mind changed.

On my workout plan for the week, I had kickboxing on the schedule. I flaked, mostly because I’m sore, but also because I’m not feeling my best.  So instead this is what I’m doing:

Favorite PJ pants gifted to me probably 6 years ago, my fuzzy socks, and HGTV. That’s what’s up. And to complete my little mood, I had the dinner of a 6 year old:

I do have to say, the macaroni & cheese was just so-so. TJ’s: please make some better white cheddar mac & cheese. The chicky nuggs were pretty good – no complaints.

In other news, recall how I talked about how my morning routine is working out well? So after reading Julie’s post on why she works out at 5am, I’m all “ooh maybe I should incorporate working out in the AM again.” So I kind of sketched out what it would look like, but not sure if I want to jump to it yet. Time will tell, my friends.

Also, I’ve been having heartburn! Not to complain, but I didn’t used to have it, and now after lunch, I have this annoying feeling in my chest all afternoon. I think I’m going to start a food journal to see if I notice any patterns.

Now, off to go lounge!

I’m recapping what I ate yesterday (Tuesday), which was a little bit on the sweet side… (sorry the pictures aren’t in the exact order, use the numbers to follow 😉

3. vanilla cake + chocolate frosting (my favorite in life)

4. Beef stick + rainbow trail mix from TJ’s

7. Oreos!!

Every Morning I….

Hello, friends! How’s your Tuesday going? Mine has been pretty good, but my stomach has been feeling funky, so that’s annoying!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about morning routines. Mostly because I’ve been having issues getting settled into one that works, and that I’m not rushing around like a mad woman. I think I may have figured out what works for me though… practice makes perfect, right? 😉

This is what the routine that works looks like:

1.First alarm goes off

2. Snooze goes off, 15 minutes later, and boyfriend is done with bathroom by around 7am, which is my cue to get moving

3. Start coffee and get straight into the shower (no checking blogs, email, etc. before showering… or else I get distracted)

4. Fix hair (blow dry, straighten), make up (concealer, foundation, blush, mascara), and fix breakfast

5. Eat breakfast, read some blogs, check email

6. Get dressed, pack work bag, and head out the door by 825am the latest

Helpful tidbits: packing lunch and picking out work clothes the night before is VERY helpful. Otherwise, add 15 minutes to this schedule!

Veggie Pizza with Bacon Bits


Now, onto new purchases that I received yesterday and today!!! I can’t express how excited I am 😉 Does anyone else get more excited for workout clothes, than regular clothing… I do.

New compression shorts, a workout shirt, and my VIBRAMS! Confession: Since receiving my Vibrams, I’ve worn them as much as possible (only walking, and mostly around the house), but they are so COMFY. If you’ve been debating to purchase them or not, do it! I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long… One more pic for my your viewing pleasure.

New workout clothing is one of the best motivators for me… so I’ll be getting crazy in the gym this week 😉

Just Can’t Get Enough.

What a weekend! It was pretty much just great 🙂

FRIDAY

I had the brillant idea to make pizza dough after work, so I walked to harris teeter, bought the ingredients, and started making it. Let me sum it up like this: I will now be buying pizza dough. I just don’t think it’s worth the mess, etc to make it when there are good whole wheat dough options.

After the pizza dough failure, the BF suggested we go get margaritas. I like the way he thinks! Our local Mexican restaurant does a $3 HH daily until 8pm. Just perrrrfect. So we enjoyed a marg, a lot little chips, and a chicken taquito appetizer. Then we headed home to watch Ides of March.

It was a good movie… that is the parts I didn’t sleep through. I slept not because I didn’t like the movie, it was because if I try to watch a movie after 9pm (plus kind of intoxicated), it’s lights out for this chick!

SATURDAY

Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs and avocado. Yumbo! Then, it was time for my first workout in a week (HAPPY DANCE)… Since I had been letting my foot chill since this incident, I was more than excited to get back into the gym. I started the lifting routine, The New Rules of Lifting for Women (NROLFW).

One workout in, I like it! doesn’t take a long time to complete a workout, and it was a full body routine. I’ll write more about it this week, but so far, so good!

After working out, we went to our favorite sushi buffet! I owed the  BF a lunch based off a bet, which I can’t even recall, but gotta pay up 😉 I actually ate less than normal and was able to control myself. go me! The rest of the day was spent with the BF’s sister/brother-in-law/niece and nephew! So much fun hanging with them, the kids are adorable and an absolute joy to be around! The BF and I took a quick trip to the grocery store at 11pm. Best.Time.To.Shop!

SUNDAY

Got up pretty early to start cooking chocolate chip cookie oreo stuffed brownies and buffalo chicken wing dip (I’ll be doing a special post for the brownies). They only way I will make such things is when I’m going to someone else’s house! I know they’ll get eaten up, and not by me 😉 We went over to a friends house at about 2pm to watch the Caps v. Bruins game, followed by the Super Bowl.

I was feeling pretty nervous about all the food, and how much I would eat, but it was much better than I expected. I did a good amount of eating, but never felt super full. That’s a win for me. We watched the Super Bowl, but once it was over, we went home right away. There wasn’t much happiness once the Pat’s lost :(  …

MONDAY

I had the best idea ever to take a half day for work, which I will continue to do for Super Bowl weekends. I slept in, headed to the grocery store, and slowly got ready for work. I couldn’t get enough water today! I was guzzling it down like there was no tomorrow. Once at work, I was pretty busy, but the day went quickly! Sorry for the lack of pictures, I really need to up my photog. skills. Tonight I headed right home to clean! oh my, our house was a mess! I also made some whole wheat pizza with tons of veggies, some bacon bits, and mozzarella cheese. The BF then suggested watching Water for Elephants… he’s really having some great ideas lately!

Italian Salsa & Pork Chops

Sometimes you just don’t have much in your fridge/freezer. This is one of those times. This is also a time when I decided to make up a recipe, and it turned out really good. Thank you Italian genes for pulling me through and coming up with an Italian salsa (of sorts).

As I put my ingredients into the pan, it started to smoke. I have this very natural fear of fire, and every time a pan starts to smoke because I haven’t properly cleaned the grease off it, I get anxiety. So first I turn the burner back off and pull the pan off stove. I make sure it’s just grease burning off, then I grab a salt shaker and prepare to dump it on the burner, then I curse myself for not having bought a fire extinguisher yet! I can’t handle the anxiety any longer. Extinguisher is being bought this weekend if it’s the last thing I do. The pan goes back onto the stove and cooks.

While ingredients are cooking on the stove, pork chops are drenched in basting oil, and stuck into the oven. Like my countertops? me too… not. Can’t wait to go Young House Love on a house I own.

While the chops are cooking, you try to not eat the delectableness in the pan on the stove. I couldn’t stop nibbling on it… SO GOOD. I could have eaten a whole bowl of just that, but I didn’t.

I took the ingredients and carefully spooned it over the perfectly cooked pork chop. If you’ve ever cooked pork, you probably know that pork is so temperamental! That stuff will over cook in a matter of seconds, and luckily I took it out of the oven seconds before it over cooked.

ITALIAN SALSA & PORK CHOPS

Ingredients:

  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 1/2 yellow onion
  • 3 tbsp bacon bits
  • 2 tbsp sundried tomatoes
  • chopped garlic
  • pinch s + p
  • 2 pork chops
  • basting oil
  • 2 sprinkles of parmesan cheese
  1. Turn oven to 350
  2. Warm olive oil in large frying pan on medium
  3. Once oil is warm, place diced onions and peppers, bacon bits, sundried tomatoes, chopped garlic, pinch of s+p into frying pan (creating Italian Salsa)
  4. Let cook until vegetables become soft, continually stirring
  5. In the meantime, pour a small amount of basting oil in the bottom of a 8×8 baking dish, place pork chops on top of basting oil, and pour more basting oil on top of pork chops
  6. Cook pork chops for 30 minutes (this depends on thickness and size of pork chops)
  7. Take pork chops out of the oven when done, and top with Italian Salsa
  8. Mangia, Mangia!!

You guessed it… Avocado + eggs + banana + almond butter. I hate to type this, but I’m kind of getting sick of the avocado + egg combo, because the ratio is off. I either need to make one more egg or use less avocado.


So if you follow me on twitter, you may know what I’m referencing when I say “taking the plunge,” but if not, I’ll enlighten you!

I’ve read a lot about the Vibram Five Fingers on Teri and Ashley’s blogs, but I had heard about them long before that, their blogs just really convinced me. I just wasn’t sure if they were a fad or if they possibly really made a difference. Regardless, I decided to take the plunge and see if they can help me out with my running form and injuries. Lately, I’ve had a reoccurring IT band problem, and I’m crossing my fingers that these little babies can make a difference! I’ll keep you updated on how they work out!

QA: Do you own a pair of five fingers or are you skeptical? If you do own them, how have they changed your performance/posture/injuries?

Today’s eats were pretty typical, and looking back they don’t even look like a lot… I swear that at 4pm everyday I get hungry, regardless of the fact that I had a snack at 3pm!

  2. 1.2 spinach chicken sausage from TJ’s + sweet potatoes + brussels sprouts + chocolate chips
  3. almonds + beef steak stick
  4. coffee + milk + honey
  5. pan seared salmon + roasted broccoli/potatoes
  6. chocolate chips

I realllly could have gone for some ice cream, but we don’t have any and I’m too lazy to trek to the store!
