Wow. I saw this video today about a 90 yr old blogger… watch it and see if you don’t tear up. Made me think of my passed grandparents, who I miss dearly. But also, what an awesome and inspiring lady!
My two favorite lines:
When wonderful things happen, you should stop and acknowledge them. – so simple and so true!
I just hope I’ve made enough of an impact that they think of me fondly when I’m gone. – wow…
Please go watch:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8999217.stm and go hug someone you love!
Happy Wednesday to you! We are halfway through the week, and I am looking forward to the weekend. Let’s get rolling with a day of eats from yesterday.
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 pieces of turkey bacon, toast
Lunch: Chipotle chicken salad on lettuce with avocado and Mexican cheese (not pictured: peanut brittle, a few tootsie rolls).
Snack: A packet of apples and cinnamon oatmeal with a sliced apple, and crumbs of peanut brittle
Dinner + Dessert: Leftover pasta e fagioli and leftover pecan bars
What tasty treats did you eat this week? I can’t get enough of the pecan bars!
I’m in a full fledged workout slump… I last worked out Saturday, and have just felt exhausted since then in regards to working out, and bored somewhat.
I hate when I get into this feeling, and mornings have been impossible to get out of bed.
I pose a question to you, do you think it’s best to force yourself to go or to ‘restart’ the next morning? I’m leaning towards doing a little mini workout from my home, then restarting the real routine tomorrow. Thoughts?
For some reason in my head, it is hard to ‘restart’ in the middle of the week, but oh well, I’m doing it! Why not let ourselves restart no matter what day? I know personally I can be very rigid about routines, and structure, but I’m going to stay yes to restarting on Wednesday with gym and getting up early. As hard as it is to wake up, I think I feel so much better the rest of the day, and need to keep that in mind when I’m snuggled up in bed.
I also need to make sure I have a plan of sorts for the week. I struggle with making it to the gym when I don’t feel like I have a goal/plan. Time to change this, and plan better on Sundays for a successful week.
To help me get more committed the rest of this week and holiday season, I’ve picked out a new workout program: LiveFit! It’s free and lasts 12 weeks, and looking forward to giving it a go. I’ll keep track on the blog regarding how it goes and results.
What do you do when you feel like you’re in a workout slump/rut?
So I realized I haven’t shared much about our engagement/wedding! I’d love to share because we are having a fun time trying to plan the wedding while maintaining a budget 😉 I’m going to start with the engagement!
So I knew TP was up to something around Valentines Day of 2012 when he asked about what kind of rings I liked. I gave him a detailed email describing them lol 🙂 Not really, but I did provide some suggestions as to what styles I liked, which he says he appreciated!
After valentines day, it was on my mind, but I figured he was working on it, so I kept calm and enjoyed life together! We had a lot of things coming up including the beach, and my 25th birthday, but didn’t want to get my hopes up, so I was proud of myself for maintaining the ‘enjoying life’ goal… 🙂
Both the beach and my birthday passed, with no engagement, however we had an amazing time at both the beach and my birthday!
A week after my birthday, in early August, TP came home from a business trip, and was in our bedroom unpacking. I was hanging on the couch in yoga pants and sweatshirt, per typical! He asked me to come into the bedroom because he had a souvenir for me, to which I was really skeptical, and honestly was not even thinking of the engagement. I walked into the bedroom and he was on his knee holding the ring, and said a lot of great things that I can’t remember (so wish I remembered), and I just was in shock! It was a complete surprise and so perfect that we were in our apartment that had helped us grow so much as a couple.
The ring is absolutely stunning, and I feel so lucky and blessed that I get to marry him!
Now we are deep in the wedding planning phase 😉
Wow, what a great 4 days! Lots of family, food, and good times all around 🙂
This is my first time participating in Marvelous in my Monday, but I’m excited to join!
Birthday love on thanksgiving for my love! My fiancé’s birthday was Thanksgiving day, so we kicked off the morning with some pancakes and sausage! He is an absolute gem, so I wanted to make it a special day for him! His gifts included some cool colored socks, and lots of workout clothes!
Food amazingness on Thanksgiving day! We enjoyed so many tasty dishes, including some delicious appetizers! We even had some ice cream cake for the fiancé’s birthday!
Family love. I was lucky enough to have most of my immediate family present with my in-laws for Tday! It was so special to have everyone in one spot.
Holiday set up around the apartment! When we got home Thursday night from the family festivities, we finished watching the Pats game, and decorated the house! I was pretty much giddy while setting up the tree, and other festive things.
Zoo time with the family! Friday we spent the afternoon at the DC National Zoo with our nieces and nephew, and the rest of the fam! It was so fun, and a beautiful day. I hadn’t been to the zoo in a while, so it was great to see all the animals!
Wizards game with the bestie! Saturday night we watched the Wizards play in DC with my best friend and her husband! We sat in the 2nd row, and really enjoyed the game! The view doesn’t get much better 😉
It was a fabulous four days, and now back to the real world! Have a great week all!
Hey there friends! How’s your week going? Do you have a short week like me? I’m working Mon – Wed, then off for Thurs & Fri. Looking forward to the 4 day weekend.
My thoughts on Thanksgiving are this: It is one day a year, enjoy it! I will work hard leading up to it to maintain my weight and overall healthy feeling, but the day of, I will enjoy all the great food. I really loved what Healthy Diva Eats said about it.
My non-expert advice: workout hard and eat clean!
This week I have been focused on eating well. For breakfast I’ve been having my usual 2 eggs and turkey bacon, salads for lunch, dinner is leftovers, but keeping it all in moderation and balance! I have indulged in some office treats (can’t ignore a buttercream mini cupcake!), but overall focusing on eating foods that make me feel good.
I’ve also been pushing it this week with workouts, and trying to incorporate high-intensity workouts. Monday night I did a GPP workout cut in half with slight modifications: (800 m row; 100 KB swings; omitted rope jumps and did 100 jumping jacks instead; 100 box jumps; 65 sit ups; 100 squats; 100 ab bridge jacks.
Let me tell you, this workout killed. I did the moves in 4 sets, in order to finish. I also realized that I was doing kettle bell swings wrong. womp womp. Lesson learned because my back is a tad bit sore. Time to work on technique! Also, when was the last time you did a real sit up? They are much harder than crunches! Try them!
Tonight I did an interval workout, and squeezed in some strength training. Tomorrow I’m participating in this GPP workout. Whatever your pre-turkey day workout, make it count!
Squeeze in a workout: I plan on getting into the gym on Thursday morning to sweat! Even if it is just going for a walk with a family member, get up and move for at least 30 minutes. Personally, it will help me enjoy all the delicious foods and I just feel better overall with a workout, so why not do it on Thanksgiving day too! 🙂
Taste everything, eat nothing – Bethenny Frankel: I heard her say this when I saw her live and it has stuck with me. Have a small tablespoon of everything, but don’t go crazy on one thing in specific. And hey, if you want more, then get some!
Stop when you’re full: Good news, the food is not going anywhere, so when you get full feeling, stop! Take a break and drink some water, and know that there are leftovers if you want a little more later on in the day (I know I will).
Lose the guilt: Remember that Thanksgiving is one day a year, so enjoy it! Then when Friday hits, get back to the routine and healthy eating. One day of indulging won’t kill you.
QA: What are your holiday healthy living/eating techniques?
I would say that I eat really well and balanced Mon-Fri, the weekends can be iffy, but I’m fine with it. I never want to be so stringent that I can’t enjoy the finer things (food) in life without guilt.
Today a coworker suggested we go to a place called The Italian Store. I’ve been dying to go here since I’ve moved to Arlington (over a year ago), since it is an Arlington legend as having the best sandwiches. So despite having my salad in the fridge, and weight watchers weigh-in tomorrow, I decided to join in. It was worth it.
Oh, and I also got a brownie, and enjoyed every bite!
In addition to getting a great sandwich, the store also has a great Italian selection of products! I am 50% Italian, so I love all things Italy. I found this traditional Italian bread called panettone, which I will be back to buy closer to Christmas!
QA: Did you splurge on any delicious foods this week?
Hope you all had a great weekend! We sure did, and enjoyed some amazing fall weather!
Friday night we enjoyed some pumpkin beer that I brought home from Devils Backbone Brewery, and I promptly fell asleep at 930pm. I’m so much fun, what can I say? Friday nights just always seem to get the best of me!
Saturday morning I was up bright and early to get my hair done, and spent the day running errands. We had our engagement party on Saturday night, so I was determined to find a cute dress!
The engagement party was pretty much the best thing ever, mainly family and the bridal party in attendance. It was so great to have everyone together and made me super excited for all the other wedding things to come.
Today was spent running errands, eating (lots of leftovers from last night – the middle part of Costco cake!), week food prepping, and snoozing. I always enjoy a 2 hour nap on Sundays!

QA: What did you do this weekend?
Happy Thursday to you all! I’m not sure about you, but I’m ready for Friday/the weekend.
A couple days ago I mentioned my race fever, and I’ve completed two days of running this week (5 miles between tues/thurs)! I did have some knee pain, but overall felt energetic, and I’m determined not to be bummed about it. I’m continuing to stretch a lot, work the gluteus medius muscle, and work on my running form (aka landing on the balls of my feet). It honestly just feels great to be out running in the cool weather!
Last night we had a wedding meal tasting at our apt (the chef came to us)! It was really nice to be served in our house, and get to taste so much delicious food. My favorite of the night was mac and cheese, and especially since it’s one of my favorite foods! It will definitely be on the wedding day menu 🙂
For the second time ever, I had pho today for lunch! It was so delicious, and a great food for fall/winter. I went to a place called Pho 75 that had a line out the door when we left. I feel like lines, although annoying, let you know that a place is good!
Lastly, I tried a meal for dinner tonight I had pinned a couple days ago: Chicken Parmesan Meatloaf from Proud Italian Cook. This was amazing, and basically reminded me of a meatball sub sans the bread! I swapped the ground chicken for ground turkey, and it was great. Both the fiancé and I decided it must go in the rotation of weekly meals. Not to mention, it took 5 minutes to prep, and then just bakes, so it was really easy to throw together on a work night. We had the meatloaf, with steamed broccoli, and roasted potatoes.
I love when things just work (running, good food/recipes)!
Q+A: Did you have any ‘little victories’ this week?
Good morning to you all! Let’s get this WIAW rolling 🙂
All meals are from Tuesday (Election Day), and the only thing missing is a handful of candy I had at work! (Dear parents, please leave your children’s candy at home, so we can maintain our good eating habits while at work 😉 )
Breakfast was coffee with coconut creamer and sugar, 2.5 pieces of turkey bacon, and 2 eggs with a sprinkle of cheese.
Lunch included Chipotle Chicken Salad and tootsie rolls! We keep tootsie rolls at work, and they are pretty low on the weight watchers points, so I typically have some after lunch.
My snack was apple slices.
Dinner was leftovers from last week of Santa Fe Chicken Casserole, wine, and leftover acorn squash with a small slab of butter and brown sugar.
