I don’t know about you, but the thought of my first post-pregnancy workout was a bit intimidating. I hadn’t really done any strength training for quite a while, and knew it might be tough. On the other hand, I was excited to burn some calories and get those endorphin’s pumping! Before baby, I would make up a lot of my workouts. When I arrived at the gym for my first post-baby workout, I had to think about what to do for a few minutes since I was rusty! I came up with this workout and thought it was a good one to get rolling again. It requires minimal equipment, and you could even sub out exercises if you don’t the equipment listed.
In all honesty, since I did this workout my exercise has been lacking… I started back to work, and the baby wasn’t sleeping great, so I’ve had a hard time squeezing in workouts. We’ve been working on the baby sleeping better, and I’m hoping that once the middle of the night wake-ups decrease, I can get up and do some 30 minute workouts. I really miss it, and wouldn’t mind getting some of my muscles back! My goal will be 3 or 4 times a week with some walks mixed in when the weather isn’t bad.
If you had a baby, how soon did you start working out? What did those workouts look like and how often?

My favorite memory from today… Baby A and I did a few errands on this rainy day, and she was a trooper! She hung out in her car seat and in the k’tan wrap while we went to the mall and costco. Once we got home, I fed her and then she needed a nap. I took her in her room, swaddled her, and sat with her in the rocking chair. Like usual, she will look around the room and stair at any shiny objects she can find. Today, she kept looking at me and smiling! Ahh, it was the cutest thing ever and my heart exploded as she stared up at me. I love being a mom and now that she is smiling, there are no words to describe the joy!
p.s. we had a baby and it’s everything and more than we imagined it would be! More on that soon, but today I wanted to document this memory.
Happy Father’s Day to my sweet and loving hubby! Although he isn’t officially a ‘dad,’ he has already been an amazing caretaker of this little girl by taking such great care of me through my pregnancy. Since I first met my husband, I’ve seen him interact with his nieces and nephews. He has been so amazing with them all, I always knew he’d be a great father. I can’t wait to start this parenting journey with him in about 2 months! Love you babe!
Around Thanksgiving my husband and I decided now was the time to start trying for our first baby, and with that, we removed the goalie! About a week or so after that, I started having some very early symptoms, abdominal cramping and breast tenderness. I immediately called my older sister, who had a son, and shared with her. She seemed like they could be signs of pregnancy since it was too early for period symptoms. I started getting a little excited! During this time was the two week wait, which is painful when you have an inkling that you could be pregnant! I did take a few early pregnancy tests which came back negative, being only 6 days past ovulation. Finally, when I was about 12 days past ovulation, and it was still 4 days before my period should be coming, but I took a test… and it was positive!!!
After the positive test, which I took during the day, I had dinner with a friend. After dinner with my friend, I ran to Target and got the book what to expect when you’re expecting which was part of my plan to share the news with my husband. Once I got home that night, my husband was watching TV, and I went over holding the book, and said, “Babe, I’d like us to read this book together,” and showed it to him. He looked at the book, confused, then looked at me, and I blurted out “I’M PREGNANT!!” He was so excited and surprised! It was such a fun thing to share, and a night I won’t ever forget!
Once we found out I was pregnant, I called my doctor to set up my first appointment… which they schedule for 5 weeks away when I was 8.5 weeks pregnant. Such a long time to wait! During this time I continued to experience more symptoms such as food aversions, such as being grossed out by coffee, being nauseous, stomach issues, only wanting carbs, etc.
During this time, we also told our families since we had a lot of family events coming up with Christmas and New Years. We didn’t surprise them in a special way, but told each of them in-person when I was about 4 weeks pregnant, since I didn’t feel like pretending to drink wine, and I’d rather have their support should something have gone wrong. They were all so excited, and we headed into the holiday season with something so special happening! I also told my best friend around week 7 since we had an upcoming trip with her and her husband, and they would know if I wasn’t drinking. I was so eager to tell people, but we really wanted to wait until we heard the heartbeat.
Finally our doctor appointment was here at 8 weeks and 3 days! I think it’s pretty typical to feel a bit nervous, and I did, but it all subsided when the sonogram technician took us into the room, and we saw the baby! Right away we saw our little bean, and saw her heart beating, what an amazing thing! We continued to keep it to ourselves for the most part, waiting until our appointment at 11 weeks when we should be able to hear the heartbeat. Overall I was feeling somewhat crummy, nauseous, tired, just not myself at all. Finally after 3 weeks we had our next doctor appointment on February 2. It was really just a check-in with the doctor, but at the end of the appointment, she put the fetal monitor on my stomach and we heard our little one’s heartbeat out loud! It was the best sound!! 🙂
About a little over a week after that, we had the 12 week NT scan, which turned out great. It was so fun to see our how our little one had progressed since we last saw her on screen, and now she was looking like a real baby! The sonogram tech was great, and really took her time showing us every little thing. At one point, our little one had her arm up by hear head, and it looked almost like she was waving. It was a great day… now we just had to wait 7 more weeks until we found out the gender.
Once these two appointments were complete, we told most people openly, which was a lot of fun! I was glad to head into the 2nd trimester and experience the great boost of energy I had heard some much about!
I’m excited to share that we are expanding our family this August!
We are thrilled and really looking forward to meeting our little girl come August. I will be using this blog to document my pregnancy and baby things in the future, along with other things! I look forward to sharing my honest experience throughout pregnancy and life after baby. I hope you’ll join along!
