Relaxation + Busyness = Perfect Weekend!

Hello friends!

I had an exciting and fun weekend, that had a little bit of relaxation and busyness: the perfect combo!

Friday:  Worked all day, then went for a run with the BF, which was hard, but good! We don’t normally go running together because he has a much faster pace than me, but I thought it would be a good challenge, and it was. I think that i’d like to do it once a week to help me work on my speed, plus it was dark out, so I felt a safer having him with me.

Later that night, we went to a bar called Spider Kelly’s in Arlington for a friend’s birthday. We got a good seat towards the back of the bar, which was good because the rest of the bar was so packed you could hardly move. I’ve realized that those kinds of bars are not my favorites anymore (too many people = not being able to move; people looking for their life mates = annoying at a bar). So we hung around until about 12, then headed home.

Saturday: Woke up at 8am (earlier than I wanted on Saturday), and got a start on the long to do list we had to accomplish! It included doing a serious cleaning of the apt, groceries, nails to hang pictures + hanging pictures, CVS trip, and eating sushi! Call out to the BF: Thanks for being the best teammate ever and always making chores/errands a million times easier/better. Seriously. He helped me clean the whole house, took me to lunch, went grocery shopping with me, hung pictures, and much more.

It was a busy busy day, but it was followed by a 40th anniversary dinner for the BF’s parents! His family came to our place first to check out our new furniture and set up, then we went to dinner at Willow in Arlington (this was delicious). Great day/night!

Sunday:  Slept in (much-needed) and had delicious steak and eggs for breakfast with some leftovers from dinner the night before. We also started watching:

Great show!! I would recommend watching it also, and it’s up to date on Comcast On Demand! We completed four episodes yesterday, and I’m sure we’ll be finishing the rest this following week! After a morning of lounging, we heading to the BFs sister’s house, to hanging with her kiddos!

Great weekend, if I must say so myself 🙂

Question of the day: What was the most enjoyable part of your weekend?

Turning a New Leaf

Hi there! Hope all you beautiful people had a nice day.

Mine was pretty good, just not feeling the absolute best, but it happens and hopefully tomorrow will be better.

So tonight I was sharing with BF that I just paid my outrageous credit card bill and our convo went something like this:

me- “gah. my credit card bill is so high. I dont know why *thinking: well yes maybe I do know why*.”

BF- “what are you spending money on? Eating out?”

me- grimacing… “uh no! (not true) well maybe?”

I couldn’t really deny this, because it’s true. I end up spending a lot of money on who knows what! Oye, it’s so annoying when the 15th of each month comes. So I asked BF to keep me accountable… not in an annoying way, but in a nice loving way 😉 A new leaf is being turned… no more spending on things that are not needs. I’m sick of looking at my credit card statement and wanting to cry.

In other news, BF and I went to buy a few more pictures for the place this evening. We settled on a nice mirror for the dining area and a NYC skyline picture for the bedroom which I loved (see below, sorry for the camera phone pic).

It’s kind of hard to find pictures that are not overly feminine/masculine, but are still nice to look at day in and day out. BTW- if you haven’t been to Home Goods, please go ASAP. I seriously love that store, and every time I go in, I want to buy pretty much everything. It’s amazeballs. Go visit soon and then curse me because you will spend lots of dough (that’s kind of an oxymoron considering I was just talking about saving money, but maybe you have a rainy day fund).

As far as working out today, success!! I was up this morning at 6 and got in a good lifting session! I was very energized which was stellar 🙂 Hope it was the same for you!

Question of the day: Who keeps you in line financially or can provide positive support?

True Confession

Today I am totally listening to this CD:  … and don’t care if it’s not Thanksgiving yet! It’s really good and I highly recommend it to put some cheer in your heart 😉

Otherwise- have a great Tuesday folks!

Monday not so Funday

Happy Monday, folks!

Personally, Mondays are very hard… I hate getting back into the grind after two days of chilling. But… The good thing is that I like my j-o-b 🙂 And that is something to be thankful for!

So my workout plan called for a run today, and when my alarm went off at 530am, I couldn’t get out of bed! I’m the first to say that getting up before 7am is quite difficult, especially on Monday mornings, but I also know that if I don’t workout in the AM, there is a very high chance it won’t happen that night. I’m pretty much lazy bones after 6pm.

To make getting up at 530am and working out easier I’ve started doing a few things:
1. Set the coffee timer to start brewing when my alarm goes off. Sometimes the scent of coffee is enough to propel me out of bed (it’s the little things in life, right??) and I like a little caffeine to get me going.
2. Put my workout gear next to me bed. Can’t avoid it when my running shoes are staring at me.
3. Eat half a piece of toast with almond butter so I’m not famished when it’s time to run.
4. Go to bed at a reasonable hour… Let’s be real, getting up is a 100x harder when I’ve gone to bed at 1130pm vs 10pm.
5. Try and remember how much better I feel once I’ve completed the workout! I never regret a workout once I’ve gotten going.

Time to prepare for that workout tomorrow!!

Question of the day: How do you make sure you stay consistent with your routine??

Big News!

Guess what?! I’m doing a marathon! Part of me must be cray crazy, but the other part, is super excited. I’m doing the training with Team in Training (TNT), which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, so if anything, as I’m running through the 26th mile wanting to faint, I will remember that I’m helping people, and that is worthwhile!

The race is the Rock ‘n Roll USA Nation’s Capital Marathon…I can’t wait to run around DC. One of my favorite parts about living in DC for 1 month was running around the monuments, there isn’t much else like it. I’ll keep you guys updated as I suffer prepare! (pic source)

In other news, sorry it’s been soo long, more updates to keep coming! Have a great Sunday evening 🙂 Go Pats!!

Question- what races are you doing?

Candy Bar Cake

Wanna make a delicious cake?? Then try this recipe!

For my sister’s birthday celebration I was the official cake baker (per usual in my household).

The highlight of the meal was the cake. I combined her love of candy with a delicious and moist cake, using a recipe found off of and titled: Chocolate Candy Bar Cake. I tweaked the recipe a small amount, using Butterfinger, resulting in a final product that was amazing. Hope you enjoy!

  • Cake
    • 1 (18.25 oz) package of Devil’s Food cake mix
    • 1 1/2 cups of milk
    • 3 eggs
    • 3/4 cup of vegetable oil
    • 1 (3.5 oz) package of instant vanilla pudding mix
  • Frosting
    • 1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1 cup confectioners sugar
    • 1 (12 oz) container frozen lite whipped topping, thawed
    • 1 cup of chopped pecans (optional)
    • 4 (1.5 oz) bars milk chocolate candy, coarsely chopped * I used butterfingers instead*

Mix all the cake ingredients together. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 8-inch pans to be baked at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes. After baking, let cool for at least 10-15 minutes.

While the cakes are cooling, gather the frosting ingredients, excluding the candy bars. Mix together the cream cheese, the white sugar, and the confectioners sugar and beat. Once the mixture is creamy, add the whipped topping and continue to beat the mixture. Put the candy bars in a large plastic bag and and smash. Take 3/4 of the smashed candy and fold into the frosting mixture.

Take the first of the 3 cakes and put on the bottom of the plate you are using. Frost the top of the first layer and place another cake layer on top. Do the same. Lastly, put the last cake layer on, and frost the top and the sides of the cake. Take the remaining candy pieces and put on top of the frosted cake. Eat and enjoy!
